We often lose faith when adversity strikes. God knows that the smallest of problems can set me off. I think God loses more people through adverse circumstance than any other cirumstance.
I was giving my cat, Lightning, her eyedrops one afternoon. If she sees me coming with the eyedropper, she runs. She doesn’t even recognize the need for the drops, much less that they’re good for her. She sees the whole daily eyedrop chase and catch as an ordeal. She gets even more upset when she has to get her shots, or when I have to bring her to the vet for a blood test, mewling all the way in my car, hunkered down in the cat carrier.
Is it any different with us? Maybe things happen to us for our own good, in a spiritual sense. And we can’t even see the need for something we regard as an ordeal, much less that that particular adversity is connected to our ultimate well-being in ways we can’t comprehend any more than my cat can understand why I need to put drops in her eyes.
